Goals

As part of the district development planning, the Urban Planning Department of Treptow-Köpenick in Berlin is drafting a strategic development concept for its public spaces.

The concept aims at formulating general statements about the necessary development measures and their prioritization for all squares recorded in the district.

Instruments

On behalf of the Urban Planning Department, various tools and decision-making instruments have been developed to facilitate and qualify the district’s planning practices. These include, for example:
– the definition of general guidelines for the development of the squares based on the city-wide and district spatial plans and concepts
– outlining square typologies with their specific development guidelines
– a matrix for prioritizing action requirements
– design principles (based on essential literature surveyed)

Workshop

Within the professional workshop “Public Squares Concept Treptow-Köpenick” these planning instruments and guidelines are presented and discussed with the participants. The program facilitates the exchange on issues of spatial development within the various specialist administrations of the district, of the Berlin Senate and the professional world. The results of the workshop are included in the concept.
