The image of the state capital could be better – regardless of construction sites and traffic. Stuttgart is often said to be a boring city. In the minds of many young people, Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg or Munich are the metropolitan cities in which one should live and work in Germany. But Kai-Erik Ströbel and the brothers Leonard and Gordon Sommer firmly believe that the state capital of Baden-Württemberg does not have to fall into a deep sleep. They are certain that Stuttgart will become a bridge to the future. To this end, they have created Futuromundo, which celebrates its premiere from July 3 to 5.
The festival stands for courage, optimism and the power of community. “We believe that real change is only possible together. Futuromundo should become a movement that inspires and connects people,” explains Kai-Erik Ströbel. Forward thinkers, creative minds, entrepreneurs and citizens are invited. The aim is to promote new ways of thinking, network ideas and perhaps even launch concrete projects for a sustainable and inspiring future.
And the head of the Ernst Reuter School in Karlsruhe, Micha Pallesche, is also a pioneer. His school has received several national awards for its media education profile – including being named the first Bitkom e.V. Smart School in Baden-Württemberg in 2017.
Daniel Jung, who founded his first company while studying mathematics by combining math tutoring with tennis coaching, is also part of the team. The YouTube channel “Math by Daniel Jung” now reaches millions of people and manages to make complicated mathematical content accessible to everyone.
Manfred Hückel also has exciting stories to tell. After 23 years, he swapped his job in the boardroom of the Red Bull Group for volunteering to save a small school on Lake Wolfgang. Today, St. Gilgen International School is considered one of the best schools in Europe. His book “Lighthouses of Education. Anleitung zu einer Schulrevolution” was on the Thalia bestseller list in Austria in summer 2023.
However, Futuromundo will not just be about education. For example, it will also be about bold future scenarios and concepts for construction, mobility, energy, communication, entertainment and security to combat climate change. “Join us on a journey into the visions and potential of forward-looking business models in energy, mobility and retail that will make cities smarter and more sustainable,” says the festival website. “Find out how economic success and social benefits can go hand in hand.”
One of the guests will be Raphael Gielgen from Switzerland. He visits more than 100 companies, universities and start-ups every year. The world is his workplace, the future his field of research.
Klaus Burmeister will also talk about his experiences. He is a futurologist and chairman of the non-profit association “D2030 – Rethinking Germany”. Elizabeth Sikiaridi will also be there. She stands for a way of working that pursues a transdisciplinary design approach in which the city, nature and the digital are conceived and developed together.
Tim Schmitt will speak on the topic of workspaces. For over 15 years, he has dedicated himself to the question of how workspaces can be designed with the future in mind in order to inspire people and increase their productivity.
There will also be a visitor from Austin, Texas. Joe Appleton is Smart Cities Director at Bizz-Tech. The company is one of the world’s leading providers of customized metaverse solutions for cities and companies. Bizz-Tech’s Urban Metaverse platform offers customized solutions for the challenges of tomorrow’s cities.
Katrin J. Yuan will be traveling from Switzerland. She was selected as one of the Top 100 Women of the Future. The award-winning executive’s expertise spans AI-human interaction, future megatrends, AI enforcement and a diverse data-driven approach. She is a direct descendant of Yuan Shikai, the former first president of the Republic of China.
Jens Wasel will also be on stage. He founded his first online store at the age of just 15, laying the foundations for an impressive career. Born in Swabia, he is a pioneer in e-commerce and a serial entrepreneur who is shaping the digital retail landscape with impressive expertise. As co-founder of KW Commerce, he built up one of the largest Amazon retailers in the world and led the company to a successful exit with over 500 employees and a turnover of 100 million euros.
True to the motto “Change the world, celebrate the future”, Futuromundo not only offers conferences and speakers, but also an entertainment program and a music festival.
