Notations
Drawings and analog notations are essential within the process of developing ideas, concepts and designs. Hybrid Space Lab’s projects are strongly process-oriented we often make notations of processes.
Hybrid Space Lab uses communal notation sessions – within the office but also in workshops with external participants. These communal notations are tools to merge analytical investigations with synthetic design processes and to create a networked mental space of interwoven concepts and ideas.
Special for Hybrid Space Lab are the communal creative tools of blackboards. In our studio we use large-scale monumental blackboards to develop ideas together. These are communal creative – sketching, noting and mapping – tools. As we draw and wipe and redraw and reinterpret … ‘new readings’ and misinterpretations open up a creative space of unforeseen synapses, nurturing new ideas and innovative understandings. While working together on our blackboards, the most creative moments are the moments of accidental overlaying where new ideas pop-up and evolve.
We sketch and make notations within the whole process of project-development. The blackboards are especially helpful as they help develop unexpected synapses, open up minds, unlock ideas, foster creativity.
