Merkel admonishes industry. Holland lets opera shine.
A colourful light show, a fast-paced performance by magician Hans Klok – and a warning from politicians. Yesterday evening, German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) opened the Hannover Messe at the HCC, warning that Europe is losing touch with the next industrial revolution: “In this respect, we must hurry!” Traditional industry and the digital world must merge. Despite high-tech, however, people as workers must not disappear from factories. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte praised the close cooperation with Germany: “Innovation is a top priority on both sides of the border.” Partner country Holland is represented in Hanover with 220 exhibitors.
And its European neighbour is bringing the atmosphere of the trade fair directly into the city: films about the “City of the Future” will be projected onto the façade of the opera house every evening until Wednesday.
