The architecture festival MakeCity will take place in 2018 under the motto Berlin Remixing | City Newly Mixed. Between June 14 and July 1, 2018, architectural and landscape planning projects from Berlin and beyond are the focus of public attention. With a variety of formats – talks, guided tours, workshops, discussions and actions – the organizers of MakeCity have set themselves the task of promoting the discourse between the professional public and the city dwellers.
The title is at the same time a program: however, given the desired integration of disadvantaged sections of the population on the one hand, and the dramatically rising land prices in the German capital on the other, “Stadt Neu Mischt” can be interpreted very differently.
Innovative mixed uses will probably be the focus. The trio of curators, headed by Francesca Ferguson, is in the midst of negotiating a “new social treaty for the mixed city.” Innovations are discussed at many levels during the festival: in terms of construction and planning processes, but also in terms of transdisciplinary alliances between architects and urban activists.
