Dutch and German policy makers, institutions, companies and universities went into dialogue and brainstormed about new and creative forms of public transport on land and water.
The creative industry is seen as the industry through cross-pollination can give the answer to the current social issues. The next year the creative industries will focus on Germany spearheaded these crossovers. In that context, an interactive workshop during the working visit of the royal couple to Hamburg on March 20, 2015, organized with the theme ‘Intelligent Mobility in the City. ” Dutch and German policy makers, institutions, companies and universities went into dialogue and brainstormed about new and creative forms of public transport on land and water. The workshop was organized by the Top Team Creative Industries in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy.
An innovative World Café-setting provided the basis for intensive discussions. The table Chairs (Erik Huizer, Henk Ovink, Lucas Verweij, Elizabeth Sikiaridi, Jann de Waal and Marc Fonteijn) put the participants to work with provocative statements. Two tables focused on the theme of water, two of the city itself and two on the overarching challenge. The themes were in line with “Projekt Hamburg 2030 ‘which the city caters to a demographic future concept. These sessions took place two days after it was announced that Hamburg’s official candidate for the Olympic Games in 2024, so the theme was quite timely.
The delta cities’ theme is highly topical and will not be less in the coming decades. Collaborate and share knowledge remains essential for cities to achieve the smartest and most sustainable solutions. In that respect, cooperation between Rotterdam and Hamburg promising. But as became clear in the group of Elizabeth Sikiaridi, there is a city in the challenge to involve the different stakeholders and co-owner of the plans. And what about the involvement of citizens, how can we use the wisdom of the crowds? The biggest challenge probably lies in bringing together a top-down and bottom-up approach. This makes it a challenge for all stakeholders.
