Embassy Lab Mobility+ functions as a platform for exchange and networking between innovative projects from the Netherlands and Germany, and international institutions and actors.
Embassy Lab Mobility+ addresses a. o. the following interconnected issues:
– How can Smart Mobility contribute to healthier lifestyles (for our aging society)?
– How can Green Mobility contribute to sustainable urban environments?
– Will the car be one of the main mobile-connected devices that will support our navigation through the data of Smart Cities?
– How does Smart Mobility in the context of multimodal mobility solutions influence the way people move around the city – and thus urban development?
– What are the new mobility-related business models?
– And as the event will take place at BMW Welt, a leading example of a retail ‘experience’ environment, issues concerning the connection of Smart Mobility and Smart Retail (multi-channel retail) will not be left out!

Interview
In conversation with the Dutch Embassy in Berlin

What is “Dutch Approach”?

The Netherlands have had hundreds of years of experience with regards to connection between technological innovations and urban structures. The workshop we have planned provides an opportunity to experience the Dutch approach, which is characterised by integral cooperation. The “Dutch Approach” is unique in the world. Hereby, design is used in its original design-dimension: as a creative problem-solving concept, as a way of thinking and acting and for the development of new technologies.

Can Smart Cities meet the challenges of the future?

The development of cities into smart cities offers several opportunities for addressing the challenges of the urbanisation, globalisation and climate change in a creative manner. The MOBILITY+ programme understands mobility as the motor and backbone of smart cities as well as the connection between a variety of smart services. MOBILITY+ extends the mobility theme to urban service design, smart tourism, smart retail, healthy cities and clean tech. It is about the mobility of the individual, according to needs, special and virtual mobility as well as mobility for health and well-being.

MOBILITY+ develops ideas as to how design, together with social innovation, can contribute to the transformation process of our society.

Crisis design is a topic of the future. What does this entail?

We are currently developing the programme “Crisis Design” or CRISISdesign.
It is directly connected to migration and flight as a result of climate change and war. With regards to basic care, housing, access to water, schools, etc., design can contribute to a change of consciousness and to more sustainability. The question of how to deal with the elements and natural disasters requires a crossover thinking.
