The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) is honored to organize the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture with Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP), Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA), and co-organize with the Shenzhen Planning Bureau. This year’s Bi-city Biennale will take place from December to February 2010 in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

As one of the celebration programs of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the Nation, the joint synergies of “Bi-City: Hong Kong – Shenzhen” create the exhibition as a cultural exchange platform between local and mainland professionals. Entitled “City Mobilization: Bring Your Own Biennale”, we invite everyone to participate in the exhibition, to “re-think” the relationship between architecture and culture and its engagement with Shenzhen, China and the rest of the world.

A Steering Committee formed by a group of senior architects, planners and designers has appointed Ms. Marisa Yiu and her team as our curators. The Bi-City Biennale is a genuine exchange of creativity among professionals, with the local and international exhibitors presenting their creative and innovative works for Hong Kong and overseas audience.

We take this opportunity to express our greatest appreciation to our principal sponsor, Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Apart from their generous funding support, we are also grateful for their great help in seeking approvals from various government departments in the use of the site. We also express our appreciation to all other sponsors for their contribution. We also express our gratitude to HKIP, HKDA and co-organizer, the Shenzhen Planning Bureau for their collaborative effort in the presentation of a creativity hub to the community.
