Citizens take part in innumerable co-creation initiatives in the private and the public domains, and more importantly in the hybrid blur where the one can’t be separated from the other.
These initiatives make use of recent concepts and developments, such as prosumer, bottom-up, peer-to-peer, start-up, social design, open design and design thinking.
From a city perspective the well-established creative city will merge with the smart city into a new ‘Co-creative City’.
From the citizen perspective the creative city and the smart city translates into the creative & smart citizen, shaping a ‘New Civic’.
Make City is Berlin’s first festival for architecture and urban alternatives, bringing together architects, planners, civic groups and developers in a citywide conversation on thinking and making city differently.
Under the motto Berlin Remixing | Stadt Neu Gemischt MakeCity offered a broad platform over the course of 18 days. For an public exchange, with focus on innovative and forward-looking projects in the fields of architecture, urban and landscape planning – with best-practice examples from across Berlin, as well as international success stories.
The more than 280 events across the city of Berlin and its peripheries were attended by around 16,000 participants. Above all, programmes contributed by partners such as the “Day of Architecture” and the European Cultural Heritage Year could report record attendance.
With a political breakfast and a subsequent discussion, a first summary of the extensive program was recapitulated together with urban policy representatives of the government coalition, MakeCity Advisory Board and festival partners.
